V6

Notes
The V6 is the name for a sequence of figures danced end to end: 
2-4 Back Lock (Man backing DC) + Outside Change + Forward Lock

To qualify as a V6, only the Back Lock (Man backing DC) needs to be present, although it is the Outside Change that provides the figure's characteristic motion.

Entering the V6
The Ballroom Technique records that the V6 begins like any other Back Lock – 
with Man's LF Back. In practice, however, the V6 more often begins on the next step: (Man's RF Back with R side leading). It is this version that is listed in the Quickstep and Basic Principles. For the sake of clarity in listing the choreographic modules, we use the V6 as written in the latter technique book. 

To those consulting the Ballroom Technique, this means we consider the V6 to begin on what Alex Moore deems Step 2. 

1-4 V6
Steps 1-4 of the V6 are a popular entry for the Six Quick Run. 

1-6 V6
Steps 1-6 of the V6 (Back Lock and Outside Change) can be danced by themselves without the ensuing Forward Lock. A popular configuration is to overturn the Outside Change (up to 1/2) and use a Bridge Step (Man's RF 
Forward OP) to begin any Reverse Figure or Fishtail facing Diagonal Center.

The 1-6 V6 to PP
The Quickstep and Basic Principles permits the Outside Change portion of this figure to be ended in Promenade Position. Possible exit figures are: 
Passing Natural Turn, Tipple Chassé to Left, or Tipsy to Left. There are no Promenade figures in ISTD Quickstep.

Ending the Forward Lock
The V6 concludes with a Forward Lock – a figure which in itself has many possible conclusions. Please turn to our page on the Forward Lock for a detailed summary of the Checked Forward Lock and possible Bridge Steps.
